17-year-old suspect was shot in separate incident days before barbershop murders, authorities say

LAFAYETTE, La. ( KLFY ) — One of the teens that was arrested in the deadly barbershop shooting was shot in a separate incident days before, according to Lafayette police.

Jeffrey Broussard , who is facing first-degree murder charges in a shooting that claimed two lives, was shot in an incident on Griggs Avenue, police said.

According to Lafayette police, the charges stemming from the double homicide is not Broussard’s first run-in with the law.

Police said Broussard, 17, was arrested on June 11 on an aggravated second-degree battery offense and has an outstanding warrant out of Jefferson County, Texas. Information on the warrant in Texas has not been released.

Lafayette police Sgt. Robin Green said the motive for the double homicide remains under investigation.

“Right now, a motive is still unclear, and even though we’re making arrests, that doesn’t mean that investigations over,” Green said.
