Hazmat situation in Scott diffused early Saturday morning

SCOTT, La. ( KLFY ) — A hazardous materials spill was handled without injury in Scott early Saturday morning, officials said.

The Scott Fire Department was notified at 5:45 a.m. Saturday of a possible hazardous materials spill at a business located in the 200 block of N. Fieldspan Road in Scott.

Upon arrival, personnel observed liquid dripping from a box trailer with a flammable liquid placard, at which point the Lafayette Fire Department’s Hazardous Materials Unit was requested for assistance, authorities said.

Personnel saw two 275-gallon totes containing dimethylformamide, a flammable solvent, and used a forklift to remove items form the trailer.

Investigators said a valve on one of the totes was leaking. Hazmat personnel were able to secure the valve and stop the leak. The scene was then turned over to a private contractor for clean-up, officials said.

Louisiana State Police Emergency Services Unit is investigating if any transportation violations occurred, causing the incident.
