Suspects in custody after deadly shooting, Kaplan police say

VERMILION PARISH, La. ( KLFY ) — Two suspects are in custody after a deadly shooting occurred Monday afternoon, according to the Kaplan Police Department.

Police Chief Joshua Hardy said the shooting happened around 3 p.m. at the Dollar General Market off Highway 14.

Hardy said the police department received multiple calls of a shooting that occurred in the Dollar General’s parking lot.

When responding officers arrived at the scene, a patron of the store was found performing CPR on the victim, Hardy said. Hardy said the victim is a Black male.

The suspects were apprehended with the assistance of the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office, Hardy said. The two suspects were booked into the Kaplan City Jail.

“Once we speak to the two suspects, we’ll go from there. But as I said, there’s a high possibility there will be a murder (charge),” Hardy said.

The identity of the victim and the suspects have not yet been released.
