ST. MARTIN PARISH, La. ( KLFY ) — The St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office on Sunday announced the passing of Reserve Capt. Carroll Knott, a volunteer who dedicated nearly 25 years helping others through the sheriff’s office.
Knott, who also served in the U.S. Armed Forces, joined the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office reserves in 1999 as a reserve deputy, the sheriff’s office said in a social media post. Knott was named a Reserve Commander and held the rank of Captain since 2006.
At the sheriff’s office, Knott was in charge of special events, funeral escorts, veteran assistance programs, and more. He was also a member of the Louisiana Sheriff’s Association Homeland Security Task Force and responded to statewide disasters when activated in times of need, the sheriff’s office said.
In 2019, Knott was honored by Chez Hope with the “Helping Hands Award” for his work in helping victims of domestic violence.
The sheriff’s office said Knott was dedicated to helping veterans across Acadiana.
