Opelousas man arrested in connection with alleged rape in Lawtell

OPELOUSAS, La. ( KLFY ) — An Opelousas man has been arrested on rape and battery charges, authorities said.

Jakob Sedrick Oakley, 21, of Opleousas is charged with two counts of first degree rape and one count of aggravated battery in connection with an alleged incident in Lawtell.

On Oct. 2 deputies with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office received a call in the Lawtell area reporting that a female victim had been beaten and raped. Detectives met the victim at a local hospital and learned that the victim and suspect met in the Lafayette area.

Oakley is reported to have tied her up and drove into St. Landry Parish after having taken the victim’s phone. They ultimately ended up in the Lawtell area, when Oakley, now armed with a pistol, allegedly raped the victim, pistol-whipped her and shoved her into what was described as a “ravine,” officials said.
