Texaco gas station damaged in fire, Delcambre officials say

DELCAMBRE, La. ( KLFY ) — The Texaco gas station at the corner of Highway 14 and 89 in Delcambre was damaged in a fire Sunday afternoon, according to city officials.

Delcambre Mayor Pam Blakley confirmed that the fire was reported at around 5:15 p.m. on Sunday.

Blakley said the fire is believed to have started in the Hot Food Corner, which is the restaurant within the gas station. She said the restaurant is closed on Sundays.

Blakely said, from what she was told, employees of the gas station “smelled something” and went to the restaurant portion of the building to check on the odor.

“They went in and they said, before you know it, the fire started coming out and stuff,” the mayor said.

Blakely said no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The mayor said that while it is believed to have fire and smoke damage, she hopes that the bones of the building are OK.

“We want our store back ASAP,” she said.

“We are working hard to see if we can get their electricity connected back, that way they can at least get their pumps still running, you know, because if you could pay with a credit card you could still pump gas,” the mayor continued.
