EUNICE, La. ( KLFY )– St. Landry Parish School Board announced possible school closures and consolidations at last night’s meeting. The possible closure of Eunice Elementary School would be the second time within the last five years that the parish has to relocate elementary students in Eunice.
In 2021, Highland Elementary School students were split among Eunice, Glendale and East Elementary schools, turning into Highland Early Learning Center . Highland is now for pre-k students only.
Milton Batiste III , SLP School Board Superintendent, said it is a possibility that kindergartners through fourth graders could go back to Highland if Eunice Elementary School closes.
“Honestly, it is a possibility,” Batiste said. “It just depends on how we how we decide to configure. It could be that or if we want to keep it early learning, it could be a Pre-K and kindergarten. It could be a Pre-K, Kindergarten and First(grade), so it just depends on the dispersion of our students.”
If Highland remains for only early learners, students from Eunice Elementary would just be moved to Glendale Elementary and East Elementary.
