ORIGINAL STORY: SCOTT, La. ( KLFY ) — Students and staff at J. Wallace James Elementary School have been evacuated due to a gas leak, authorities said.
Lafayette Parish School System spokesperson Tracy Wirtz said a gas line was broken but is now capped.
“HazMat officials are going through the school to ensure that there is no lingering gas inside,” Wirtz said. “The students and staff have been evacuated to an area behind the school that is not in close proximity to the building.”
