Cleanup resumes after EF-1 Tornado hits St. Landry, Evangeline Parishes over weekend

ACADIANA ( KLFY ) — The National Weather Service confirmed an EF-1 tornado made its way through parts of Evangeline and St. Landry Parishes over the weekend.

Harold Wayne Perry, a resident of Whiteville, described the noise of the tornado as “like a train or something. A big old noise.”

Rickey Bergeron, another Whiteville resident, said it sounded like “nothing but a sandstorm against the windows in the house.”

Perry and Bergeron said the winds hit hard and left them with plenty of mess to clean up.

“My camper shed blew all apart. It just like, it exploded,” Perry said.

Bergeron said he saw a dark cloud over his neighbor’s house across the street before witnessing a tree fall down.

“It tore off his back patio, which was huge. And tore off part of the back of his roof. And luckily, we didn’t have any damage other than a few structures being knocked over and a couple of bushes,” Bergeron said.
