NEW ORLEANS —Deion Colzie is chasing a national title with Notre Dame, but already earned something valuable this month.
The Athens Academy product finished up his bachelor’s degree from the prestigious university in political science.
Now, to get that championship ring, the Fighting Irish will have to get by Georgia in the Sugar Bowl on Wednesday night in a CFP quarterfinal. Georgia being the school just down the road from where Colzie played high school ball.
“It’s an awesome feeling going against the hometown team,” Colzie said.

Colzie actually hails from McDonough, but enrolled at Athens Academy after making a connection to the school where he developed into a four-star prospect and the nation’s No. 102-rated player by the 247Sports Composite.
He attended the last Notre Dame game against Georgia in 2019 in Athens. He was a Notre Dame commitment then but went to the game as a Georgia recruit.
Colzie said Georgia and Oregon were also in the running.
