The New Year in Lafayette started with several people ending up in local hospitals after two groups of individuals reportedly exchanged gunfire. The Lafayette Police Department was called out to the 2100 block of the NE Evangeline Thruway at approximately 2:24 am on January 1, 2025, after reports of multiple gunshots.
