I love a screen door.
The doorway to our backyard from our kitchen has an old-timey screen door with a black wooden frame, a screen that is a little saggy (but still in good shape) and an old wrought iron filigree that protects the screen.
Our house was built in 1946. As far as I can tell, the door appears to be original to the house. It even has that little hook on it to latch from the inside.
Quick math tells me the screen door is 79 years old. No doubt it has had its share of new screens, but the end result still serves us well. In the weeks since the holidays, I’ve spent more time at home than usual. On bright and sunny days, I’ve loved opening my door, latching the screen door (so that my visiting daughter’s crazy dog doesn’t go barreling through) and enjoying a breath of fresh air…
