Two people escape Lafayette house fire ignited by plumber’s torch

LAFAYETTE, La. ( KLFY ) — Two people escaped a house fire in Lafayette Wednesday night that officials said was caused by an attempted repair of a frozen water pipe.

Lafayette firefighters responded at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday to a house fire in the 200 block of Noble Street. A resident called 911 to report smoke in the house.

Investigators said a plumber used a heating torch to repair a frozen water pipe, and the conducted heat ignited combustible material in the wall…
