Driver of flipped truck on I-49 wasn’t wearing seat belt; alarming trend in Louisiana

The I-49 crash that left a 17-year-old Carencro High School student fighting for her life is putting a renewed focus on the lack of seat belt use in Louisiana but the alarming trend can easily be reversed, and it just may save your life. According to the Louisiana Seat Belt Observation Survey by the Highway Safety Commission, people are not clicking on their seat belts nearly as often as they used to in years past. Police and safety experts say the failure of the Carencro teen to buckle up led to her being thrown from her pickup truck when it rolled over along I-49. “This was something I had never seen before in my life,” said Drakkar Francois, who witnessed the crash. “I was driving from Ville Platte on I-49 near the Gloria Switch exit and I actually saw the car turn on its side and barrel.
