Some Lafayette Parish residents resort to canoes & small boats to navigate flooded streets

Heavy rains caused significant flooding throughout Lafayette Parish, including Youngsville and Broussard, making many roadways impassable. Lafayette police shut down several streets, including the Evangeline Thruway. In some neighborhoods, as high water encroached on homes, residents resorted to using canoes and small boats to navigate the flooded streets. “I’m still kind of processing it all,” said Asa Landry. “My truck got flooded. I look outside and I got water up to my dashboard. It was about a good three, four inches in the house and we are already about five feet in the air.” Landry expressed frustration with drainage issues but noted the floodwaters didn’t make it inside his home…
