Louisiana State Police have identified the man killed in an officer-involved shooting in New Iberia as 30-year-old Justin Rhine.
The incident occurred on the evening of April 30, 2025, near the intersection of Ann Street and Buckeye Street. According to LSP, officers with the New Iberia Police Department and deputies from the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office were attempting to take Rhine into custody under an Order of Protective Custody—a legal measure typically issued when someone is believed to pose a danger to themselves or others.
When officers made contact, Rhine reportedly fled. During the pursuit, authorities say he produced a firearm, prompting NIPD officers to fire their service weapons. Rhine was struck and died at the scene. No officers were injured…
