LAFAYETTE, La. ( KLFY ) — Bishop Douglas Deshotel with the Diocese of Lafayette shared his insights into how the first American pope may have picked his name. This comes after Chicago-born Robert Prevost chose the name, ‘Pope Leo XIV.’
“I suspect he saw a hero in Pope Leo XIII and wanted to take those qualities to use in his pontificate in our day and time today,” Bishop Deshotel said.
