Unattended candle sparks Lafayette townhouse fire; neighbor injured while trying to help

LAFAYETTE, La. (NEWS 15) — Firefighters in Lafayette quickly doused a townhouse fire that investigators determined was caused by a candle left unattended in the bathroom.

The Lafayette Fire Department reported the fire happened on Bell Downs Drive, which is off Guilbeau Road not far from West Congress Street, just after 7 p.m.

The fire department arrived within five minutes and discovered flames in an upstairs bathroom, which were put out in just 10 minutes…
