In a recent announcement from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), motorists in Lafayette Parish are being advised to prepare for significant disruptions beginning July 7. According to a statement on the DOTD’s website, a $1.63 million dollar project to replace a box culvert on La. 93 will begin shortly, causing a complete closure of the 0.053-mile stretch north of La. 342 for 21 days.
The project aims to ultimately enhance the roadway by removing existing drainage structures, carrying out earthwork, and installing reinforced concrete box culverts among other improvements. Construction will occur daily during the 21-day road closure, with following operations from Monday through Friday, scheduled 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting. Motorists are encouraged to plan to accordingly adjust their routes during this period.
As per the DOTD announcement, the impact on travel is expected to be significant, as emergency vehicles will not have access during the 21-day closure. A detour utilizing Dulles Drive, Ambassador Caffery Pkwy, and W. Congress St. will be in place to help navigate the area.
