LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – Tropical Depression “Two” has strengthened into Tropical Storm “Barry” as of 10 a.m. Sunday. Barry has sustained winds of 40 mph as it creeps along the Mexican coast.
Barry will be a big rainmaker for Mexico. The mountainous terrain helps to create intense rain as Barry’s slow-moving rain bands work their way onshore.
Barry is expected to continue on a northwestern track through this evening, potentially strengthening some before landfall. The National Hurricane Center is expecting Barry to have winds of 45 mph at landfall later today.
Barry will not bring any major impacts to Acadiana, however, it is surging tropical moisture towards to the area leading to widespread storminess Sunday afternoon.
