Lafayette man kidnapped, shot; arrests made in St. Martin Parish

ST. MARTIN PARISH, La. (KLFY) – Two men have been arrested in connection with Attempted First-Degree Murder of Lafayette man.

St. Martin Parish Sheriff Becket Breaux said on July 16, Deputies received a call from a passing motorist in the 1500 block of Prairie Highway, regarding a man who appeared to be in distress, lying on the side of the road. He said after authorities responded to the scene, they learned the victim was kidnapped at gunpoint in Lafayette Parish and transported to St. Martin Parish, where he was shot, stabbed multiple times, and left on the side of the road.

Sheriff Breaux said during the investigation two suspects were identified, Kaleb Benoit, 20, of Lafayette, and Cameron Babineaux, 25, of Lafayette. Both were charged with Attempted First Degree Murder.

Benoit turned himself in on Friday and was booked into the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office Correctional Center, where he is being held without bond.

Sheriff Beckett says his investigators learned that Cameron Babineaux was traveling to Texas. He was captured Friday evening by the Texas Department of Public Safety. , He is currently incarcerated in the Chambers County Correctional Facility on unrelated charges. He will be transported at a later date to be booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center on the above charges…
