Scooter safety tips urged after teen’s death in Acadiana

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)– Following a fatal electric scooter accident in Breaux Bridge, Lafayette Police Department shared crucial safety tips, emphasizing helmet use, visibility and adherence to traffic laws for all open-air vehicle riders.

Cpl. Ashley Wood with the Lafayette Police Department provided safety tips in wake of the tragedy.

“Safety is very important whenever you are going to be writing any kind of open air vehicle. Absolutely always wear a helmet, whether it be on a motorcycle, on a moped or a bicycle, an electric scooter, anything like that,” Wood said. “You definitely want to wear a helmet because that’s going to protect your head. Make sure that it is properly sitting and that it is certified as a safety helmet.”…
