LAFAYETTE, La. (NEWS 15) — A special event honored veterans in Lafayette with a focus on the legacy of the Buffalo Soldiers. The gathering, organized by the group Once Was Inc., took place at the Guidroz Good Center on Simcoe Street.
Buffalo Soldiers Day, observed on July 28, commemorates the formation of the first regular Army regiments comprising Black soldiers in 1866. The event aimed to honor the legacy of these soldiers, who were notably active in Louisiana, while also recognizing the sacrifices made by all local veterans.
