The Vermilion River’s banks are eroding — residents say more cops could help

Ray Boyer has lived most of his life on or along the water. These days the now-retired doctor can most likely be found fishing or looking at the Vermilion River from his backyard.

But what he sees is the water slowly taking away something from him — his land.

Erosion from the river lapping against the shore of his waterfront home has removed what he estimates to be 10 feet in the last 30 years, erasing land on the property he has called home for more than four decades…
