Last week, the Lafayette Consolidated Government announced it officially broke ground on a $5 million streetscape project along 12th and Surrey streets, launching a major effort to improve infrastructure in the McComb-Veazey neighborhood.
The project includes:
- New sidewalks and stamped brick crosswalks to improve pedestrian safety
- Upgraded bus stops and landscaping features to enhance public transit and beautify the corridor
- Construction is underway from Plum Street to Crocket Street, with completion expected in about 18 months
This initiative is the first major streetscape effort connected to the Evangeline Corridor Revitalization Plan — a long-term vision for reconnecting and strengthening the surrounding community. The project was made possible through years of planning, with support from the Evangeline Thruway Redevelopment Team.
Once completed, the improvements will create a safer, more welcoming…..
