Two Pedestrians Fatally Struck on I-10 East in Louisiana as State Police Investigate Cause

Tragedy struck on a Louisiana Interstate when two pedestrians were fatally hit by a vehicle this past Sunday. The incident, which occurred on I-10 East near Louisiana Highway 328, involved a stationary Ford Escape and a Lexus GX460. According to a report from the Louisiana State Police Troop I, 66-year-old Cynthia Dinet of Gretna and 68-year-old Elisa Lightell of Maurice were the victims pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Louisiana State Police’s preliminary investigation suggests that the Ford was parked on the right shoulder of the interstate, with Dinet and Lightell outside of the vehicle when the Lexus, attempting to deal with traffic congestion, unexpectedly veered off the road, hitting both pedestrians and the rear of the Ford. The Lexus driver, who was not using a seatbelt, sustained moderate injuries and had to be quickly taken to a local hospital.

In their ongoing investigation, authorities collected routine toxicology samples for analysis, aiming to determine if impairment played a role in the crash. The Louisiana State Police used the unfortunate event as an opportunity to remind the public about the risks of distracted driving.
