Lafayette eyes public transit solution: micro-buses

Congress, Cameron, Johnston — Buses on Lafayette Transit System’s six bus lines currently run primarily along economic corridors, not residential areas. As a result, residents hoping to ride the bus currently have to figure out a way to get to stops along major roadways first.

Once at the stop, they wait — sometimes up to an hour — in the sun, the heat, the rain, most likely without any cover.

But it doesn’t have to be that way — and Lafayette is looking at a concept for closing the much-discussed “first mile/last mile” connection that often stands in the way of potential passengers actually using public transit…
