Street light projects aimed at improving safety beginning soon

The New Iberia City Council will be seeking feedback from the constituents of each district for optimal locations for street lights in the city.

Mayor Fredie DeCourt said the agreement made with Cleco last year included the creation of new street light locations, and with a budget of $250,000 the mayor asked Tuesday for each council member to begin developing 20 proposed locations in their respective districts where new street lights could be installed.

The only caveats, the mayor said, were that the street lights needed to have an already existing utility pole and be near a transformer so no new infrastructure needed to be added…
