Opelousas council discusses budget and employee pay raises

OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) — The Opelousas City Council spent much of their recent meeting discussing their concerns over the proposed budget which would originally take effect on Sept. 1.

The meeting began with council members John Guilbeaux and Marvin Richard moving to adopt the proposed budget in order to give municipal employees a 2.5% pay raise.

“And if we delay this budget knowing that we have to amend it anyway, those employees will not receive their 2.5% raise. And I would not like to delay our pay raise for our municipal employees,” said Guilbeaux…
