ABBEVILLE, La. (KLFY) — A federal lawsuit over Abbeville’s district map has concluded with the city council voting to adopt a new map, despite ongoing concerns about racial gerrymandering.
The decision comes after more than four years of legal battles and accusations that the previous district map packed black residents into a single district, diminishing their voting power. The new map, which was approved by the city council, reduces population deviation across the city’s four districts to 0.57%.
