St. Martin Parish man charged with attempted murder after chase

ST. MARTINVILLE, La. (KLFY) — A St. Martinville man was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including attempted first-degree murder, after allegedly fleeing from a traffic stop and committing multiple traffic violations, as well as being a suspect in a disturbance and unauthorized entry at a residence, deputies said.

On Sept. 8 deputies arrested Brandon Keith Haviland, 25, of St. Martinville after he allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Saltmine Hwy. and Mills Hwy. in Breaux Bridge, fled from an official during a traffic stop and initiated a pursuit.

During the course of the pursuit, which spanned St. Martin, Lafayette and Iberia Parishes, Haviland continued to allegedly commit multiple traffic violations, including attempting to purposely ram other responding deputies head-on with his vehicle and firing several rounds at the deputy’s vehicle.
