Eye on Scams: Medicare scam calls ahead of open enrollment

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)– Even though open enrollment for Medicare is a few weeks away, con artists are already calling those eligible to commit Medicare fraud.

Andrew Tauzin with Lagniappe Insurance Group, a Better Business Bureau accredited business, said consumers report scam callers claiming to be insurance agents or Medicare representatives, offering to help them enroll in a plan or change their current plan.

“Every enrollment they get, they get commission,” Tauzin said. “They get paid by the federal government to enroll them in these plans.”…
