3 dead after overnight Opelousas restaurant fire; cause still under investigation

OPELOUSAS, La. (NEWS 15) — Three people are dead after an overnight fire at an Opelousas restaurant, according to the Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal.

Officials did not release names but said the victims were the 48-year-old owner, his 33-year-old girlfriend, and her 9-year-old daughter.

The fire happened at Fat Belly’s Diner on East Jefferson Street in Opelousas a little before 2:30 a.m. Investigators added the three victims were in a living area connected to the restaurant…
