Jason Aldean hunts gators, visits a Louisiana country bar before his Lafayette show

Country star Jason Aldean got a dose of real Louisiana country life yesterday, thanks to Governor Jeff Landry and Liz Higginbotham, the owner of a little bar out on the levee in Catahoula.

Red’s Levee Bar, a community institution for bayou dwellers since 1952, is about a 40 minute drive from Lafayette. Red’s is nestled deep in gator territory, only 10 miles up the road from the Bayou Benoit boat launch near Lake Fausse State Park. That’s where the governor hosts his annual gator hunt and political fundraiser, near the Landry family camp.

Jason Aldean came down to Louisiana from Nashville this week, ahead of his Lafayette show taking place Thursday night at the Cajundome. The star is in the middle of his “Full Throttle” tour, and his team decided he needed a little under-the-radar recreation this week.

A few years ago Higginbotham met Aldean’s father, Barry Aldean, during a night out at her bar. A mutual friend had brought the senior Aldean down to Red’s Levee Bar, which is noted for its authentic, swampy vibe out on the edge of the Atchafalaya Basin…
