Slim chance for tropical development in the Gulf

Storm Team 10 and the National Hurricane Center are monitoring two areas that have a low chance for tropical development in the coming days. A new tropical wave is expected to emerge off of Africa by this weekend and currently has a 20% to become a tropical system as it moves through the Atlantic.

The other area is much closer to home as an area of showers and storms over the Bahamas will slowly drift to the northwest. This disturbance will reach the northeastern Gulf over the weekend and has a very slim chance for developing. A fully formed tropical system is not expected at this time.

Regardless of tropical development, showers and storms will push towards the Gulf Coast this weekend. Scattered activity is likely in Acadiana on Sunday along with a low risk for heavier rains.
