PLAQUEMINE — Law enforcement from around south Louisiana stepped up to escort the body of Iberville Sheriff’s Deputy Charles Riley from Broussard to Ourso Funeral Home in Gonzales Wednesday morning.
Riley was shot and killed, and a captain was injured, after a suspect allegedly opened fire during an interrogation at the Iberville Parish Courthouse Monday night. The injured captain, Brett Stassi Jr., underwent another surgery this morning. Yesterday he was listed in critical but stable condition, according to Sheriff Stassi.
The route from Broussard to Gonzales was lined with first responders, patrol cars, motorcycles, and fire trucks. American flags waved as people gathered along the roadside to honor Deputy Riley’s service to the community…
