DOTD looking to let go of old Coburn’s building in downtown Lafayette

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development is asking the Federal Highway Administration if it could let go of the old Coburn’s building in downtown Lafayette.

The long-abandoned building, located along the railroad tracks at the corner of West Third and Grant streets, was purchased by DOTD in 2009. The property was intended to be converted into a site for on- and off-ramps for the proposed Interstate 49 Connector project.

Subsequent designs relocated the connections, but the property remains in limbo along with its historic brick building…
