Vendor in Lafayette bribery scheme sentenced to 18 months in prison

Joseph Prejean of Carencro, who pleaded guilty in a bribery scheme involving the 15th Judicial District Attorney’s Office in Lafayete, was sentenced Tuesday to 18 months in prison.

Prejean, an ex-convict, owner of C&A Consulting and a gym in Carencro, was charged with and pleaded guilty in 2023 to one count of conspiracy to defraud the federal government for allegedly conspiring with two employees of the 15th Judicial District Attorney’s Office — former Assistant District Attorney Gary Haynes and contractor Dusty Guidry — to take kickbacks from defendants in the pretrial diversion program.

U.S. District Court Judge David Joseph sentenced Prejean to 18 months in prison and three years of supervised release, ordered him to pay a $40,000 fine plus a special condition of 20 hours of community service per month working with at-risk people, which he has done for years…
