National Craving – Which National Chain Does Louisiana Want Most?

(KMDL-FM) Louisiana is an enigma wrapped in mystery. We’re very set in our traditional ways, yet we like to be on the cutting edge of trends too. One of the trends our state tends to miss out on is the opening of national chain restaurants and stores. We’ve all got our wish for a brand, an outlet, or an eatery that we really wish would open a location, if not in our hometown, then at least in our state.

Having certain national chains and brands located in your state or your community can be a feather in your cap for tourism. It can also mean a big boost in the economic development, as all of those visitors pile into a place they can’t experience anywhere but here.

Isn’t Louisiana Getting Two New Locations of Buc-ee’s?

At first blush, many of you might think the answer to the question, “What national chain do people in Louisiana want the most in our state?” It would be Buc-ee’s, the Texas-based travel center. But no, that’s not it. And the reason is probably because we know Louisiana is getting two new Buc-ee’s in the next couple of years.

I know in the Lafayette, Louisiana area where I live, ever since I moved here in 1995, there has been a strong desire by people in my circles to have a P.F. Changs restaurant. The only other national chain that I can think of that even moved the meter in that regard was Top Golf. Lafayette has one of those now, so that’s off the table.

We also have a Costco and Whole Foods and a lot of other stores that seem to position this area to be stocked with only the biggest, best, and brightest chains in the ecosphere that is retail, but alas, there is one.
