On November 7, 2025, a two-vehicle crash occurred on Louisiana Highway 14, east of Pirates Lane in Vermilion Parish. Louisiana State Police said the crash happened shortly after 2:00 p.m. Julien Lawrence, Jr., 65, and Alexis Jackson, 41, both from Kaplan, died at the scene. Lawrence was driving a 2003 Ford Crown Victoria. The other vehicle was a 2023 Cadillac Escalade.
Police said one vehicle crossed the centerline on a small bridge, causing a head-on collision. The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Jackson was a rear passenger in the Ford. The Cadillac’s occupants and another Ford passenger were taken to the hospital with injuries. Authorities are investigating seat belt use and have collected toxicology samples from both drivers.
