New Brazilian steakhouse will bring grilled meats, gaucho cuisine to downtown Lafayette

Lafayette is about to get its own Brazilian steakhouse, inspired by churrascaria-style restaurants featuring grilled meats and flavorful gaucho cuisine.

If you’ve experienced a Brazilian steakhouse concept like Rodizio Grill (which closed in Lafayette in 2018) or Texas de Brazil in Baton Rouge, the offerings will be familiar — but Santa Picanha will offer a slightly different experience.

These restaurants, inspired by the South American barbecue favored by the cowboys (or “gauchos”) of southern Brazil, typically offer white tablecloth all-you-can-eat service, with the meats carved tableside. Santa Picanha’s owner, Gustavo Rosenstengel of Lafayette, said that his spot will be more casual, with à la carte ordering, an open kitchen, and a lunch counter…
