On the evening of December 7, 2025, Louisiana State Police responded to a fatal accident on US Highway 167 near Leblanc Road in Lafayette Parish. The incident happened shortly after 8:00 p.m. when 37-year-old Ricky Verret of Maurice was struck by a southbound 2002 Jeep Wrangler towing a trailer. Verret was walking on the right shoulder and entered the roadway, where he was fatally injured.
The driver of the Jeep was not injured and was wearing a seatbelt. Authorities do not suspect impairment, but routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash is under investigation.
