Lafayette’s recent mayor-presidents have had a bad habit of pursuing mega projects that the public didn’t ask for, resulting in a lot of them failing to get off the ground.
Like when Joel Robideaux tried to sell LUS and LUS Fiber. Or when he attempted to launch a Lafayette cryptocurrency. Or when Guillory tried to demolish the City Court. Or when current Mayor-President Monique Boulet tried to spend $17 million renovating City-Parish Hall.
These were all projects that didn’t stem from public support or long-term community plans. They were just wild ideas that administrations decided to spring on the public. And the public generally responded with outrage or shrugs…
