Chicken shawarma plate and crepe from Starbox Falafel

I’m a sucker for chicken shawarma, and this spot down South Sherwood Forest Boulevard not only has great food, but my plate came packed with heaping portions.

The chicken shawarma plate comes with pita bread and a choice of three sides. I got the rice pilaf, salad and hummus. The mound of chicken tasted tender and well-seasoned. The salad was fresh, and the hummus was creamy.

I don’t have much of a sweet tooth, but on this particular evening, a chocolate and pistachio crepe piqued my interest. The chocolatey goodness came with strawberries, balancing the rich flavor with something fresh.

Veal Piccata at Maison LaCour

Going to Maison LaCour is a treat under any circumstances. We ended up going at 5:30 p.m. on a Tuesday — and it was like taking a little vacation in the middle of the week.

The veal piccata was tender with a creamy lemon butter sauce on the side. The veal was served with green beans and a potato. The dish was delicious and satisfying — the whole experience even better…
