Enrollment in charter schools in Acadiana has continued to increase, according to state data.
Almost all eight charter schools in Lafayette, St. Landry and Vermilion parishes saw an increase in enrollment and collectively gained more than 2,000 students compared to last fall, according to October enrollment data collected by the Louisiana Department of Education.
Charter schools are publicly funded, tuition-free schools that are independently operated. Per-pupil funding follows students to charter schools, even if they later re-enroll in a different school after the official count date.
