From Johnston Street to UL leadership: The Acadiana stories to watch in 2026

In 2025, Acadiana saw a historic snowstorm, the culmination of a yearslong investigation into a bribery scheme in the district attorney’s office, the end of Joseph Savoie’s era at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and several big development stories.

In 2026, several of those stories will continue to play out, plus we’ll be keeping a close watch on Lafayette Mayor-President Monique Boulet’s plans to revitalize an important corridor and the Lafayette Parish School System’s budget issues.
