Maintenance issues in St. Landry Parish Jail result in injured inmate, sheriff says

OPELOUSAS, La. (NEWS 15) — An inmate at the St. Landry Parish Jail was injured, but not seriously, after an attempted suicide using part of a rusted and damaged metal ceiling tile, according to Sheriff Bobby Guidroz.

Sheriff Guidroz reported the incident happened on Friday, January 2, and the inmate’s injuries are not considered life-threatening.

He said it highlighted ongoing maintenance issues within the facility. He added that the damaged ceiling tiles were identified during a December 2025 Building Maintenance Inspection conducted by the Sheriff’s Office Correctional Staff…
