Acadiana is mourning the loss of a beloved radio voice. Delta Media Corporation has announced the passing of longtime Z105.9 DJ Stephanie Smallwood, who passed away early Sunday morning.
Smallwood was widely known as the heart and soul of KFXZ Z105.9, where she spent years connecting with listeners across Lafayette and the surrounding areas. Her presence on the air helped shape the station’s sound and spirit, making her a familiar and trusted voice to thousands in the community.
A Legacy That Extended Beyond the Microphone
Stephanie Smallwood retired on December 1 after falling ill in October. Even after stepping away from daily broadcasts, her influence never truly left Z105.9 and the broader Acadiana radio community.
“Our hearts are broken over this news, and we are in complete shock,” said Johnette Cochran, General Manager and Vice President of Delta Media Corporation. “Stephanie loved her listeners and was incredibly passionate about being on air. She added immeasurable value to our team and our community. She will never be replaced.”
