Opelousas man convicted again of second-degree murder after retrial for 2019 crime

OPELOUSAS, La. (NEWS 15) — An Opelousas man has now twice been convicted of murder, according to St. Landry Parish District Attorney Chad Pitre.

He reported Tevin Jenkins, 32, of Opelousas, was found guilty of second-degree murder by a St. Landry Parish jury. He said the unanimous verdict came after nearly seven hours of deliberation.

He added Jenkins was convicted of the 2019 murder of Rodney Savoy, 34, of St. Martinville. This was Jenkins’ second trial for the crime. He was previously convicted by a non-unanimous jury, which was permissible under Louisiana law at the time…
