Pinchos Mixtos from Veracruz
At Veracruz, diners get a two-for-one meal with the Pinchos Mixtos. For $18, the dish comes with two skirt steak skewers with chimichurri and plantain tostones and two grilled chicken skewers with salsa verde and sesame seeds, served with yuca fritas.
Both the steak and the chicken fell off the skewer easily, which made me excited to try them. The steak was extra tender, with bright flavors coming through in the herbs of the chimichurri, while the chicken had this blackened taste to it that was a contrast to the zesty salsa verde.
It would be rude of me not to mention that my table ordered the ceviche chicharron as an appetizer, which was made with fried pork belly in a ginger citrus salad, avocados and tomatoes. It was bright, refreshing and the perfect thing to share with others…
